Open-ended, imaginative play is critical for the healthy development of young children.

Play ADK is developing a first-of-its kind mobile play center that is expected to be unveiled this summer. We are outfitting a vintage dump truck with sandboxes, slides, interactive exhibits, and opportunities to explore the truck itself. The mobile play center will travel to communities across the Adirondack region in spring, summer, and fall, with a focus on existing and established community events such as farmers market, community concerts, arts and culture events, and more.

This project will introduce communities to examples of interactive children’s exhibits and their many benefits, while they have fun experiencing and exploring the mobile play center. It will also engage the community as Play ADK continues plans for the creation of a permanent play center in Saranac Lake. Also: Kids love trucks!

We need your help to make this happen. Play ADK has support from a number of funders and organizations, including Adirondack Foundation and the Adirondack Birth to Three Alliance, and the Saranac Lake Rotary Foundation. We currently have some private funding committed to this project and are looking for community support, both financially and in-kind. We ask those who can help to give to this campaign at any level; if you have materials, expertise, or other in-kind support to contribute, email robcarr@playadk.org.

Our current projections for this project are approximately $15,000. With $5,000 from Adirondack Gives, we’ll be well on our way to unveiling the mobile play center in Summer 2017.

Who we are

Play ADK is a nonprofit organization, operating under the fiscal umbrella of the Saranac Lake Rotary Foundation, working to establish an interactive play-space and children’s museum in Saranac Lake that will provide opportunities for open-ended, imaginiative play for young children and their families for exhibits, programs, and resources focused on Adirondack culture, history, and community.
