The Bobcat Trailhead Improvement Project
The Bobcat Trailhead Improvement Project will create a professionally surfaced parking area with a split-rail fence on three sides and a relocated registration box that accounts for the newly-developed “meadow route” beginning of the trail.
Bobcat Trail is an easy and popular hike through an attractive forest along a series of beaver ponds. The existing parking area has become rutted and muddy so this project will accommodate better use of the trail.
Here is what your gift will do: An individual hiker, a group of friends, or a mother, father, children, and maybe grandchildren decide to hike the Bobcat Trail on a sunny spring morning after a week of rain. They drive to Whallonsburg and then on Walker Road to an attractive parking area with no mud or ruts. They park, hike the trail and have a wonderful experience together. That is success!
On a Saturday in May, 267 people take the “Grand Hike” from Westport to Essex. They hike up the Bobcat Trail, marvel at the beautiful forest and sparkling beaver ponds, and arrive at the “luau-themed” Oasis 2 hosted by Essex Initiatives. They enjoy talking with other hikers, eating Dak Bars and fruit, drinking punch, and listening to happy music as they stand or sit in a firm new parking area instead of the wet grass and mud they found in 2017. That is success!
The total cost of the project is $3,000; a $1,500 grant from the Essex Community Fund gets CATS halfway there. Please donate to complete the campaign.
The Bobcat Trailhead will convert mud and ruts into an attractive parking area so hikers can enjoy their time outside in the beautiful Champlain Valley. Create success with your gift.
