The New York Ski Educational Foundation’s (NYSEF) mission is to provide opportunities for athletes of all ages to reach their potential in snowsports — alpine skiing, freestyle skiing, snowboarding, ski jumping, cross country skiing, Nordic combined, and biathlon — through professional guidance and financial support. NYSEF helps young people develop athletic capability, sportsmanship, self-discipline, and self-esteem, leaving them better equipped to achieve academic excellence.
Unified by a vision of offering racers in the Empire State the opportunity to train with an elite coaching staff on world class terrain at a reasonable cost, a new headquarters was constructed in a small cabin at Whiteface Mountain. Since its beginning, NYSEF has since grown to include 6 disciplines, 4 training venues and over 600 athletes, some of whom competed in the Winter Olympic Games.
Campaign: Wax, Transport and Warming Trailer
Description: NYSEF is campaigning to purchase and build out a trailer. The trailer will be used for our Nordic disciplines to do the following (but not limited to): bring to race venues for waxing and testing skis quickly and efficiently; use at our “home” training facilities for waxing and testing; and be a prime meeting space for athletes and families. NYSEF finds our coaches and athletes not having appropriate or available space to wax or gather at many of the venues. The trailer will also be a place to keep equipment protected and safe.
By having a trailer designated to Nordic, it will enhance our current programs. With a large participation number and facility for our downhill sports like alpine and freeride, we are eager to add to our current Nordic program. NYSEF trains and races in world-class venues. We need to upgrade and be one of the leading snowsport programs in our region. By gaining a trailer, we will add value to the program for incoming and current Nordic families.
Cost: The cost of the trailer is $15,000. NYSEF is soliciting grants from several winter sport organizations.
The Campaign: NYSEF will match up to $5,000 from Adirondack Gives to go towards this trailer.
